Harald Metzkes, one of the outstanding GDR artists, has been well-known to everyone since its exhibition in New York at the MOMA, while his son Robert Metzkes is a real find for many interested in the sculptures. His unique figures, often depicted in life size and mostly clothed, look raptly between present and Roman grave portrait. In the captured silence and the peaceful coexistence with the viewer, Metzkes junior creates a really successful contemporary interpretation in the context of a great role model, Kolbe, in his museum in Berlin. For an artist who is unparalleled in Germany, the price is well worth the investment.
